Deception Award: Jamie Custer Grimes from Forest Grove, Oregon

Summary
The Ad:
Backfired Productions review Jamie's ad in more detail:
1. Ad states: Brand New Kodak Printer
BFP: Found multiple indications of product usage, such as opened packages, fingerprints, dirt, scratches, etc. There was nothing to indicate the product was Brand NEW
2. Ad states: GREAT DEAL!
BFP: Believes in the principle of value for value. In order for something to be a great deal, it would have to benefit both parties equal or better than their expectations, which of course this transaction only profited the person who obtained the money through deceit, which is robbery of the worst kind.
3. Ad states: Forest Grove is the implied place where the seller lives.
BFP: Found that Gales Creek is where they actually live, and the fact that they wanted to meet elsewhere or listed a different location, although not uncommon or wrong, but through their deceit felt it critical in listing it here, as it's still is deceiving, but also to expose all evidences to further customer awareness and watch the patterns of deceivers, to further protect ourselves.
4. Ad states: I bought Kodak Easy Share ESP All In One picture printer/scanner/copier for $125
BFP:Found no evidence of their actual purchase, such as a receipt or invoice, and can not deem this as credible information.
5. Ad states: It has never been used…its brand new!
BFP: refer to the evidence listed in number one.
6. Ad states: I still have the box and papers it came with!
BFP: Found that they did furnish the original box, and instruction booklet, but again no receipt, and with the packaging having immigration tape on it, there was no furnished documentation of the immigration paper works, shipping invoices or packing list of any kind.
7. Ad states: It has a program disk to download onto your computer
BFP: Noted that it did in fact have the CD software for the computer, but also noted that it was opened before this transaction which makes their sellers credibility less credible.
8. Ad states: I also have 2 sets of ink. I am only asking 50 dollars for the whole set. Please ask with any questions. Thanks, Jamie.
BFP: Noted that the ink is not in usable condition and is leaking from it's cartridge.
The Story:
A few weeks ago I became a victim of these modernized thieves and with such an unpleasant encounter, I would want to relay my experience to everyone so that they will be warned if in case they do business agreements or negotiations with these scammers. The first week in September my wife was hunting for a printer so she wouldn’t have to go to a photo shop to have her pictures developed. So we decided to log onto craigslist to see what we there and we found this add.
The first week in September my wife was hunting for a printer so she wouldn’t have to go to a photo shop to have her pictures developed. So we decided to log onto craigslist to see what we there and we found this add.

We decided to buy the printer if it was still available, so my wife sent an email asking if it was still available with our number for her to call us. The next day we got a call from Jamie Grimes with the name Spencer Grimes on caller id, and she said we could pick up the printer today. We were reassured by the words of Jamie that emphasized the phrases “GREAT DEAL and Brand New”. So she gave us the address of Van Doren RED-E-MIX concrete located in Forest Grove, Oregon, to where we can pick up the printer. She said her husband worked there and to call him and get directions. So that afternoon we went to pick up the printer and she was to meet us at her husbands place of work (Van Doren RED-E-MIX concrete).
When we arrived at Van Doren RED-E-MIX concrete, Jamie was already there waiting in her truck while Spencer Grimes stayed inside while she pulled off the scam. She had a 1-year-old child and 3-week-old baby with her while she pulled this off. I took the printer and gave her $50.00. When we got home later that night we took the printer out of the box, which by the way had Spencer Grimes name on delivery tags attached to the box, and couldn’t believe what we saw (see pictures below) the pictures speak for themselves. We found a black printer with scratches intentionally tainted with dirt to cover it up and which seem to tell us that it was already used and carelessly handled. The cd package was open, if it was brand new why would that be open? The extra ink cartridge was not open but had black ink leaking all over the package.

The next day we tried to contact Jamie Grimes but it seems as if she only answers the phone if someone is going to give her money. Finally later that night her husband (Spencer Grimes answered my call. I explained to him the printer was not brand new and the printer did not work. I told him we needed our money back since all the pleasing specifications of a great and brand new printer were all lies. All he had to say is that a deal is a deal and it was my fault that I never examined it thoroughly in the first place. In part I guess it was my fault for trusting what his wife was saying, but it is NOT my fault that his wife is a lying scammer with delusive details. Then we finally concluded that it was a scam and Jamie and Spencer Grimes are frauds—true blue “con artists”. I still insisted on getting my $50, called Spencer Grimes numerous times at Van Doren RED-E-MIX, which he claims to be the manager.
I guess he thinks no one cares if he and his wife are pulling off a scam while he is working.
After telling him I would like to bring the worthless printer to Van Doren RED-E-MIX located in Forest Grove, since that is where I paid for it. Ten minutes later, the Washington County police called me and said I cannot contact the grimes nor go to their home or Spencer’s place of work where the scam took place. I’m not pushing the issue just for $50 that these cons took from me. I’m doing this because of the fact that trusted someone, and that trust had just been broken by someone whom I believed was innocent, rearing her two children while hideously lying to me at the same time. I’m not backing down while these people are on the loose and have no idea what is morally right and what is wrong. If you see another ad on Craigslist or eBay or on any advertising site or even at a cheap garage sale and it proclaims of an item with “great deal”, be wary, Jamie Grimes might be the one you’re dealing with. To have business transactions for business sake is acceptable. But to involve trust and assurance between both parties embraced in the principles of business venture is another matter. Faith and trust are major components of the so-called clean business affairs. It is the biggest investment one can gamble in the world of business. Be careful whom you give your trust. The world is getting greedier and unforgiving. Scam experts are getting nicer and more attractive to make their biggest loot from naive purses. So when someone assures you of a transaction with "GREAT DEAL", always think twice and weigh its "truth value" by common sense, experience and plenty of advice from real trustworthy people.
